6-day Forecast Discussion Updated for Tuesday, March 9, 2010

OVERALL SITUATION--***Become a fan on our Facebook page (with a LOT more fan interaction) and look for more giveaways!!!***

We look dry through midweek with more high pressure ridging keeping things quiet but more storminess (including rain) returns Friday and through the weekend, unfortunately with some rain.

Today--An upper level trough and surface cold front tries drops through with a dip in temps and just a few clouds passing through early today.  There just isn't any moisture with this so snow showers seem unlikely.  Any early wind gusts subside through the day as well.

Wednesday and Thursday--High pressure aloft returns Wednesday with more sunshine and dry conditions.  Breezes relax again as temps rebounds slightly.  We'll be watching upper level troughing working through the southern US and trying to pull some cloudiness our way later on Thursday.  Timing may be delayed so we'll probably see the clouds increase with the chance of some light snow late/overnight.

Friday--Starting to turn unsettled as low pressure works in from the southwest with the chance of any snow changing to rain.  It doesn't look too strong but it cuts off from the jet stream and may slow up as it approaches.  That means a long duration event lasting into the weekend.  Snow levels unfortunately get pretty high (up around 6000 feet) with mainly rain but perhaps some sloppy summit snow.  Precip looks light to moderate (late) with some potentially heavier amounts overnight and Sat.

Saturday and Sunday--Cut-off low pressure slows up (with an unusual blocking pattern, called a Rex block)  and keeps a moist southerly flow with a good chance of rain for most areas.  Southerly winds will be picking up pulling in the mild temps.  Looks sloppy even into Sunday--CT

Long range forecast / discussion...March 15 to 18

An unusual blocking pattern looks to set up through the weekend and continue into early next week.  Stalled low pressure may linger close by for a while (in a weakened state) with the continued chance of showers (mix rain/snow).  We'll plan on unsettled conditions through Tuesday followed by high pressure clearing things out through midweek--CT
