:::SNOW:::

SUMMARY FOR THE NEXT 6 DAYS -//> UPDATED FOR SATURDAY, MARCH 13th at 6:15am...Today -> SNOW; Today, a compact and closed low pressure system moves across Utah, and toward the 4-corners region overnight. Significant snow is expected today and tonight for the western slopes of the Wasatch as the bulk of dynamics and moisture move right across the region. Lighter snow is expected in areas like Park City east of the Wasatch front range.

Sunday -> LIGHT SNOW; Low pressure drops across the southwest US, and New Mexico, with light snow expected. An easterly flow means that best snow totals should shift to east of the Wasatch front range (Park City/ The Cantons favored in this wind flow), but it still looks light at best.

Monday and Tuesday -> CLEARING EARLY MONDAY, THEN MOSTLY SUNNY THROUGH TUESDAY; Low pressure moves out early Monday, with skies becoming partly cloudy. Mostly sunny and into the 40's in all areas below 10,000 feet on Tuesday.

Long range forecast / discussion...March 19 to 22

--A ridge of high pressure (some clouds/ sun, and milder) seems most dominant now through the 16th/ 17th. After the 16th/ 17th, Pacific storms start moving in again with frequent snow through the 24th or so. The rest of March and most of April still look potentially snowy.

--WINTER OUTLOOK (from early November); This winter we expect near to below average snowfall for northern Utah including Alta. For southern Utah including Brian Head, we expect above average snowfall. Most of the heavier snowfall does not arrive until after the 1st of January, but we do expect some significant storms this month and also in December. Temperatures are expected to be colder than average across northern Utah and near average for southern Utah, with wide variations and some extreme cold periods. CM
