Cochran Ski Area (Base: 500', Top: 1,000')

6-day Forecast Discussion Updated for Monday, May 12, 2008

OVERALL SITUATION--TODAY--A cut-off upper level low will slide through the area but just off to our south today.  We'll still be under more cloud cover, cool temperatures and increasing easterly breezes but the rain should just barely skim by.  Southern resorts may get a few light raindrops/sprinkles but overall we're trending towards a dry forecast.

TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY--Low pressure continues to slide by to our south and out to sea so we'll still remain fairly dry as clouds diminish and northeasterly breezes ease off.  Upper level high pressure ridging squeezes in from the west to give us more pleasant conditions through midweek.

THURSDAY--A weak upper level trough approaches from the west with a surface cold front.  Look for increasing clouds later in the day and the chance of mainly light, isolated rain showers.  This batch should move through rather quickly.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY--A pattern change will be developing slowly into the weekend as upper level low pressure will gradually shift towards us.  A mainly west to southwesterly flow sets up ahead of this system--perhaps briefly warmer milder ahead of this system for a couple of days too.  A few isolated spotty precursor showers are possible both days as well, however, more are expected as this low settles in later in the weekend

Long range forecast / discussion...May 18 to 21

Rather unsettled for a while as deep upper level low pressure sets up shop overhead.  A good chunk of moisture rotates through for the 18th-19th with stronger upper level support.  The first part of next week looks to remain cool and unsettled with more showers as upper level low pressure sticks around--CT
