The following discussion applies to Southwestern British Columbia, including Whistler Blackcomb, Hemlock and Mt. Cain; along with the Cascades of Washington including Mt. Baker, Stevens Pass and Badger Mtn.

After a mild start to the day today, with rain showers, things will change quickly as a cold front sweeps through.  The main low pressure center will pass into central and northern British Columbia, but the trailing cold front and associated showers will affect us for the next 36 hours.  Snow levels will start off quite high near 6000' and fall through the day all the way to 3500'-4000' by the evening hours.  This will play havoc with snowfall totals with elevations above 6000' seeing the most obviously.  Totals will range from 8"-12" above 6000', 5"-8" from 4500'-6000' and 2"-4" from 3500'-4500'.  Wednesday will have snow still in the morning with an addtional 3"-5" in B.C. and lesser amounts of 1"-3" in Washington, with snow levels near 2500'-3000'.  The snow will taper off during the afternoon hours region wide.

High pressure then builds in and will remain entrenched over our region for the rest of the week. This will bring tranquil weather with warmer temperatures returning by Friday and into the weekend.  To see how long the quiet weather will last, please see our long range outlook below.

Long range forecast / discussion...March 22 to 24

A weak system looks to move in from the north near the 22nd that will bring us a slight chance of light snow showers near that time period.  After that, our pattern looks to "flatten" out somewhat, which will bring the chance of light rain and snow showers, scattered in nature, beginning the 23rd or 24th.
