6-day Forecast Discussion Updated for Saturday, November 7, 2009

OVERALL SITUATION--(NEXT UPDATE MONDAY NOV 9th) We settle into a dry and mild pattern this weekend and well into next week with strong high pressure ridging aloft building in.  This will boost freezing levels very high and put snowmaking efforts on hold for a bit as well.  The next front moves in for Tuesday night next week with the chance of some rain/snow showers but it looks weak with a brief cooldown--the rest of the week looks dry with more high pressure.

Today and Sunday--The jet stream noses in aloft just to our northwest starting to induce fairly strong high pressure for us into the weekend with continued dry, mainly sunny skies and warming temperatures today--freezing levels climbing well above summit level through the day.  Aside from a weak short wave trough skimming by to our north tonight and into Sunday morning with a few extra clouds and perhaps an isolated rain shower/sprinkle, most of the weekend looks dry.  Warmer air drifts in aloft to nudge freezing levels above summit level dampening snowmaking efforts for a while--freezing levels up to 9000-10000 feet through the weekend and don't come back down until early next week (Tues night/Wed).

Monday--Continued high pressure keeps temps mild, freezing levels too high and skies mainly sunny and dry.

Tuesday--High pressure breaks down briefly with the next upper level trough moving in from the Great Lakes.  Clouds increase and temps cool a bit--looks like most showers hold off til late Tues into Tues night/Wed.  They'll start as raindrops before freezing levels drop overnight and end as some snow showers.

Wednesday and Thursday--Temperatures and freezing levels drop downslope briefly behind an exiting cold front--some clouds and light snow showers possible early then some clearing and strong, chilly northwesterly winds.  High pressure, sunshine and warmer temps return for Thursday--CT

Even after a brief cool down Wed (the 11th) high pressure ridging aloft returns for the rest of the week with mainly dry and mild conditions--not much snowmaking expected for now.  Ridging may weaken and break down next weekend but it still doesn't look too stormy--rather a calm, neutral pattern with seasonable temps --CT
