Short Range Forecast Discussion
::: Isolated PM thunderstorms today/ Cooler with showers and some snow Saturday through Monday/ Milder with more sun Tuesday and Wednesday :::

DETAILED SUMMARY for the week -> Updated for Friday, May 17... Today - We have a slightly unsettled southwest flow aloft due to northwest US low pressure. This southwest flow contains enough moisture across Utah for scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly across northern Utah, and mostly this afternoon.

Saturday through Monday - A fairly cold low pressure system from out of the northwest US moves in with some upper level energy across the area, and a moisture increase, for increased clouds and showers, plus a shot at some mostly light accumulating snowfall mainly above 8,500 feet (Alta-Snowbird-Brighton-Solitude), and mainly for northern Utah. Sunday and Monday become a bit colder, with snow to 7,500 feet at times, and some snow accumulations (it looks like winter for the higher elevation resorts).

Tuesday and Wednesday - High pressure ridging builds in some, with mostly sunny skies developing on Tuesday, and the same sunny skies but warmer temperatures on Wednesday. An even colder low pressure system develops across the northwest US, and this one looks quite unseasonably cold. CM

Long Range Forecast Discussion:
-23 to 29 May, 2013 - Thursday through next weekend and the following week, we may see low pressure remain across the northwest US, and upper-level high pressure ridging builds across the southwest US, placing Utah under a southwest flow aloft. Isolated mainly afternoon thunderstorms and showers develop each day under this pattern. Otherwise, we expect warmer and warm-ing temperatures.CM
