World Extended Outlook - Olympic Games Special Forecasts!

(OLD FORECAST FROM JAN 18) -"Leading up to the Feb 9 to Feb 25, 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, we see the pattern changing to deliver a better winter with better base depths and snow conditions as the pattern is looking busy for the remainder of January, with much more snow toward the last days of January. Early February should continue this busy and unsettled pattern, to set up for great conditions at the Olympic games! - It looks like a cold weekend leading into the games, with some light snow expected on Sunday (also one of the coldest days), cold and clearing Monday, mostly sunny and warmer on Tuesday, then clouds increase on a warmer Wednesday as a storm system approaches, with a shot of light snow on Thursday, then a stronger system moves through for next weekend, with heavier snow expected off and on for 2 -3 days (Fri-Sun, 16th-18th).

LONGER RANGE - For the last week of the Olympic games, expect mostly unsettled and mostly colder than or near average (= cold) weather, with occasional snowfalls, some significant. More detail is coming in the next update.

Chile/ Argentina - It looks like high pressure ridging holds across the region, especially north (some showers and low pressure hit Patagonia ands areas nearby on a frequent basis). Fair skies are expected for the most part, with dry air and large differences between day and night temperatures.
Australia and New Zealand - CURRENT - Mostly fair and cool across Australia, and showery and cool for New Zealand, with some light snow for the resort areas as a low pressure trough sits across the area, and high pressure ridging builds into Auatralia from the west.
Monday and Tuesday - A weak low pressure system moves through Australia first with some light showers on Monday (fair Tuesday), then moves into New Zealand, increasing shower potential there.
Wednesday through Friday - A strong and unseasonably cold low pressure system moves through Australia with showers in valley areas, and significant snow for the mountain areas. New Zealand continues cloudy mixed with some sun, and mostly light showers at times.
Saturday and Sunday - The strong/ unseasonably cold low pressure system moving out of Australia moves into New Zealand with showers in valley areas, and light to moderate snow for the mountain areas, especially to the South Island.
LONGER RANGE (AU/ NZ) - Just after the 5th and through the 10th, we expect a very unseasonably cold and strong low pressure system to affect Australia aned New Zealand, with late season significant snowfall possible, especially to South Island New Zealand resort areas. CM
