CANADA: British Columbia/ Alberta Short and Extended Range Weather Outlook
LONG RANGE OUTLOOK from snowforecast.com - Dec 14, 2017

The strong, blocking, and freakishly permanent upper level high pressure ridge across the northeast Pacific and west coast of British Colombia continues to say NO! to any real juicy Pacific storms hitting southern British Colombia and Alberta, as the real big dumps of snow usually arrive in part from more of an over-water trajectory across the Pacific, that the current pattern does not allow, with the real cold and snow to the east.

It looks like the ridge of high pressure will hold through December, and even into the New Year, with mostly short-lived winter events affecting mostly southeast BC and western Alberta, Banff favored, otherwise mostly dry conditions, then winter should rush in for Western Canada shortly after the start of the New Year as the pattern shifts during early January. Some diverted (by the ridge) and mostly limited moisture or strength low pressure systems move through a few days before Christmas, clipping Western Canada with mostly light snow, possibly moderate.
By early January, all areas of Western Canada will likely start to see some more significant snow.
