Western US Weekend Outlook - Updated for Tuesday, February 24, 2015

This weekend is promising snow for all western US resort areas, with Colorado (including Aspen-Snowmass) looking like the snow king once again...
Friday and Saturday we see large scale low pressure carve out a trough across the western US, with a strong storm working its way from the northern Rocky Mountains/ northern Cascades, south through the rest of the west.
Friday and Saturday - Light to moderate snow is expected for the Cascades and northern Rocky Mountains (including north Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana), with snow to Tahoe/ Mammoth as well, on the order of 6" to 1 foot possible, mostly dry and cold, light powder as this system is dropping in from out of Canada with cold air dragged in behind it. Colorado will see snow, Utah will see snow also, some moderate to heavy. Southern California resort areas will also see some snow.
Sunday - The northwest US clears out for a sunny day and some fresh though not very heavy, snowfall. The southwest US, including California, Utah, and Colorado, continues to see snow, with especially heavy snow for southwest Colorado, and northern New Mexico including Taos Ski Valley. 7 day to 2 week+ forecast (since 1998) - 02 to 12 March, 2015 - WESTERN US: Next Monday through Thursday we expect another major storm to move in across the west, with lighter snow near the coasts (in general), and heavier for Utah, Colorado, New Mexico. The storm moves through Monday (2nd) through Thursday (5th). Following this, frequent storms continue moving in across the entire western US, with eastern Pacific (storm blocking) upper-level high pressure ridging not going away completely. Frequent and at times significant snowfalls continue across the western US.
