European Short and Extended Range Outlook
November 13, 2016
(old outlook, please email chris@snowforecast.com and let me know if you would like to see this updated)
This forecast primarily covers the Alps (France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria)
Sunday and Monday - It looks like mostly cloudy skies and light to moderate snow showers for the resort areas on Sunday, maybe 5 to 10cm of snow, up to 15cm for higher elevations and north facing slopes, as a weather system drops in out of the northwest/ north on the east side of a large upper-level high pressure ridge, pushing in from the west. By Sunday night/ Monday morning, snow showers are ending and skies are clearing from north to south across the region. On Monday we expect partly cloudy/ mostly fair weather across most of the Alps, especially for France with downsloping northeast (drier) winds, but mostly cloudy skies, chilly weather, and lingering light snow showers across the southern Austrian Alps, and the north slope Italian Alps.
Tuesday through Thursday (15th - 17th) - High pressure ridging noses in across the area, causing mostly fair weather for most areas, but some clouds are expected at times also as the southern edge of more northern storms hitting the UK and Scandanavia, brush the area at times.

LONGER RANGE OUTLOOK
Next Friday and Saturday (18th-19th) MAJOR SNOW... Colder and unsettled as a large scale storm system moves in with strong dynamics and good moisture, to deliver 30 to 60cm (more for higher elevations/ summits) of snow to the Alps. More detail is coming. Snow lingers into Sunday as low pressure exits, and strong upper-level high pressure ridging builds in for 3-5 days (mostly fair weather then). CM
