CM
Forecast discussion for Aspen-Snowmass and Western Colorado

Updated for Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at 9:05am...
Today and Wednesday we see a low pressure system crossing northeast Arizona and into northern New Mexico today, with a south flow of winds into southwest Colorado (favored for snow) and a north flow across northern and central Colorado. Light snow is falling in Aspen and at the base this morning. Light showers with some rain mix (base, town of Aspen) and moderate snow (upper mountain) are expected due to higher snow levels by this afternoon, near/ above 9,000 feet, so some rain is expected in Aspen and other areas below 9,000 feet as the low pressure system moves mainly across southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. Winds continue out of the north on Wednesday, with clearing expected as low pressure moves eastward, placing the area under a slightly unsettled northwest wind flow. Thursday looks like a break, then more low pressure moves in on Friday and Saturday with similar snow totals possible, and similar snow levels. CM

LONGER RANGE...
More snow is expected into early April (on track, details coming). CM

What is the weak La Nina/ ENSO Neutral SST pattern going to bring this winter of 2016-2017? We put together a comparison to some past possibly analogous years, here: Here is some guidance, using previous similar pattern years. This guidance is for Aspen, near base elevations (mid and upper mountain get 2 to 3 times as much snow).CM
