Today - Mostly sunny skies and chilly temperatures after a cold morning, under a brief ridge of high pressure...

Wednesday - Starts out mostly sunny, then clouds increase with isolated snow showers expected to develop in the afternoon, and any of these ending overnight as this fast moving system moving through.

Thursday - Snow showers develop afternoon through overnight as a major storm is setting up... Resorts along and north of the I-70, Vail Pass and east, is where the heaviest snow is expected, moderate to Aspen Snowmass on Thursday, with a LOT more coming for the weekend.

Friday through Sunday - On the north side of a high pressure ridge that may weaken through next weekend, opening the door for strong jet stream winds overhead (northwest orientation to start, westerly on Saturday, and southwest on Sunday, favoring all western Colorado ski resorts before all is said and done on Sunday), and good moisture + strong cross mountain wind flow, for some epic snow totals expected at Steamboat and northern Colorado resorts east of Vail pass and north of the I-70, heavy and possibly heaviest of the season so far for Aspen, and also heavy for southwest Colorado. The difference between snowfall in Aspen (town) and on the mid and upper mountain cold be significant (could see very heavy snow on the mid and upper mountain areas of Aspen-Snowmass), with best snowfall for Aspen looking like it will occur on Saturday, after moderate to heavy snow on Friday. Things are on track and looking amazing! Meteorologist/ Chris Manly

LONGER RANGE: More storms, frequent and significant, are expected after the 15th as the pattern shifts back to "busy" for the western US (frequent and more significant snow) as we move past mid-December, pre Christmas Holiday (ON track from the last many updates), right through Christmas. Around the 25th or so we may be shifting back to a high pressure ridge and more sunshine.
Winter is looking more snowy and colder than average across western Colorado and Aspen, as we have been saying since this summer, and is happening. Meteorologist/ Chris Manly
