Snow Mountain Ranch Discussion
Western Colorado Weather Discussion - Jan 22, 2018

Today looks mostly sunny and beautiful with some fresh new snow on the ground as the latest storm system exits Colorado. A weak weather disturbance passes through this evening and tonight with a quick dusting of snow. Areas along the divide could see about 4 inches of accumulation from it, while we are expecting a dusting to 1" in Aspen, more on the mountain. Northwest slopes and areas nearest the divide, north of the I-70 are favored.

Tuesday clears out for another mostly sunny day under a brief ridge of high pressure, then Wednesday continues the same pattern, with mostly sunny skies and some valley inversion layers (temperatures colder in the valley areas than the nearby mountains late/ early). By Wednesday we see a change coming again...

Thursday and Friday (100% on track from the last forecast) we expect a strong low-pressure system to move through with more snowfall. We are expecting that this one is capable of producing a powder day for all areas of Colorado, southwest/ San Juan Mountains included, though moisture is forecast to be a bit limited. The weekend (as forecast, on track), the 26th-28th looks like a great one to show up for the best conditions of the season, base depth and surface conditions all considered. Mostly sunny skies are expected Saturday and Sunday, though we may see a fast shot of snow in between (at night most likely) as high pressure ridging builds in.

LONGER RANGE: More and frequent storms are expected to move through (after a brief break early next week) for January 30-31 as large scale low pressure becomes entrenched across the western US again. Winter is Back! Expect winter and frequent snows to continue right into February, in fact, February is looking very busy with storms, to start. CM
US Extended Snowfall Outlook
LONG RANGE OUTLOOK from snowforecast.com - Jan 18, 2018

The start of winter has been a bit delayed from what we forecast back in mid-December (by about a week), but is here, no doubt, and will be with us for the rest of January and into February most likely, with plenty of cold and snowy storms on the way...

Today and Friday we expect snow to fall across the Sierra Nevada (Tahoe-Mammoth), and Wasatch mountain ranges (Salt Lake Utah resort areas), to the tune of a foot of fresh for both Tahoe and Mammoth before its all over, and also 6 inches to a foot of snow for Colorado! Southern California will also see some snow, with some light snow expected in Big Bear mainly on Friday.

Do you want to ski or board in 6 inches to 1 foot of mostly fresh snow, while the sun shines? Go to Tahoe or Mammoth. Do you want to ski or board while its snowing, and 6 inches to 1 foot or more of snow expected? Go to Colorado or Utah for the freshest turns...

The coming weeks will be more busy and we expect frequent snowfalls across all resort areas of the western US and Western Canada. Follow your favorite forecasts at www.snowforecast.com.

LONGER RANGE: We expect a busy pattern (frequent snows) across the western US and Canada into early February.
