THIS WEEKEND: A cold low pressure system is moving through the northern Rocky Mountains now and on Friday with good powder to be had at Big Sky and Jackson Hole (about 1/2 foot), and will move through Colorado on Saturday, morning through overnight, with 5" to 11" of snow, nearer to almost half a foot at base elevations around Aspen, and near 1 foot for areas along the front range and the divide, like Winter Park (about 8"), Loveland (1 foot), and Arapahoe Basin (1 foot). Most of the rest of the western US remains dry...

AFTERWARD: Most of the west remains dry however, but there are signs that from the 15th to the 20th, a southern jet stream may start to undercut the freakishly strong high pressure ridge that has plagued California and most of the west with disappointing snow totals and drought. For now, here is what some guidance shows:


We believe that you will see a correction to this in the coming days, with more snow forecast for the southwest US as an undercutting jet stream pushes some milder (though still snow producers for most resort elevations) into Tahoe-Mammoth, southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico:




This looks like a reasonable transition, so we are watching for these changes to possibly wet and snowy weather for the west coast ginning up between the 15th and 20th of February... Stay Tuned. CM
