The place to be for the best fresh powder this weekend
Feb 04, 2017 - Saturday at 5:50am PST

9 to 13" of snow has already hit the region as of yesterday and last night, so we already have a big powder day, but there is a LOT more coming this weekend...

skypic

Big snow totals are coming this weekend for the Inland Northwest including Schweitzer, Lookout Pass, and Whitefish! 1 to 2 feet of additional snowfall is expected all across the region from 4,000 to 7,000 feet (resort elevations) from a strong low pressure system offshore of Washington, which will send some waves (upper-level weather disturbances) across the area, pushing dynamics in the mid to upper atmosphere, good moisture, and enough cold air for some good snow production. Today and tonight (Saturday) we expect 6 to 10 inches of snow to fall, and mainly this afternoon through tonight as the offshore low pressure system starts to push inland with increased mid to upper level dynamics, and mechanical forcing over the mountain barriers. Sunday and Sunday night looks like the big show, with about 8 to 14 inches of new snow expected across the inland Northwest. On Monday, Temperatures are expected to drop, low pressure is exiting the region, and we see some sun breaks, plus there will be a lot of powder in the trees and everywhere else. Monday could be one of the best powder days of the season!
Next Tuesday and Wednesday we expect to see a ridge of high-pressure building in across the region, for clearing skies, snow showers mostly ending, and probably a few fog/ visibility issues early on.
Next Thursday and Friday we expect more moderate to possibly heavy snow, as another low pressure system moves in across the region.

LONGER RANGE: We could be in store for a mostly sunny weekend next weekend (11th/ 12th) as another ridge of high pressure builds in between storm systems. After the 15th we could start to see some larger storms moving across the region, for continued Great conditions after good snowfall! Winter is not over yet!
