URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Juneau AK 333 PM AKST Fri Dec 12 2025 ...SNOW FOR THE SOUTHERN PANHANDLE OVER THE WEEKEND... .A long duration snow event is likely across the panhandle this weekend with two rounds of snow. The first round will bring snow the southern panhandle beginning Saturday morning. Snow will mix with, or change over to, rain in the far southern panhandle beginning Saturday afternoon with the transition continuing into Sunday. For Wrangell, Petersburg, and Kake, the snow looks to arrive later Saturday morning and last into Saturday evening. This snow will fade out Saturday night, leaving a lull in the snow. For Sunday, a second round of snow is possible. This round will bring moderate to heavy snow to the central panhandle, from the Sumner Strait area to the Icy Strait area.
