...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...High wave action and dangerous currents expected at Lake
  Michigan beaches. Waves 3 TO 6 ft expected.

* WHERE...Porter County.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Swimming conditions will be life threatening,
  especially for inexperienced swimmers.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain out of the water to avoid dangerous swimming conditions
and do not venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or other
shoreline structures.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of north central
Illinois...northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Significant Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated:
     Level 4 of 5 Tornado Risk.
     Level 3 of 5 Damaging Wind Risk...up to 80 mph.
     Level 2 of 5 Large Hail Risk...up to golf ball size.
  Significant Flooding Risk.
  High Swim Risk Lake Michigan Beaches.

DISCUSSION...

Scattered thunderstorm are likely starting this morning and
continuing at times through the early evening. An isolated severe
thunderstorm cannot be ruled out late this morning into the early
afternoon, especially south of Mendota to Paxton line.

A more substantial severe weather threat is expected between 2 pm
and 9 pm. Severe thunderstorms from mid afternoon through early
evening will be capable of producing long tracked, particularly
damaging tornadoes, destructive winds up to 80 mph, and hail up to
golf ball size. While some severe weather threat will exist across
the entire outlook area, the threat increases as you head
southward from I-80.

Thunderstorms today will be capable of producing torrential
rainfall which could lead to localized flash flooding.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM CDT /11 AM EDT/ THIS MORNING
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of Illinois, including the following counties, in
  Illinois, Cook, DuPage, Will, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kane,
  Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Lake IL, and Livingston. In Indiana
  this flood watch includes the Benton, Jasper, Lake IN, Newton and
  Porter Counties.

* WHEN...From 10 AM CDT this morning through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Showers and thunderstorms are expected today. Rain may be
    heavy at times, with the strongest storms capable of
    torrential rainfall which could drop up to 2 inches of rain
    in just an hour`s time in the hardest hit areas. Soil
    moisture is already quite high and stream flows elevated, so
    heavy rainfall could quickly result in flash flooding of
    streams, creeks, low lying, and flood prone areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch for flash flooding means rapid-onset flooding is
possible, but not yet certain, based upon the latest forecasts.
Flash flooding is a dangerous situation. Persons with interests
along area rivers, creeks, and other waterways should monitor the
latest forecasts and be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.
