Occasional cloud-to-ground lightning is the main threat from the storms. Severe storms are not anticipated tonight. Localized minor flooding continues over portions of the Boundary Waters. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday Localized minor flooding also continues in the Boundary Waters region. Warm, dry, and windy conditions are forecast Friday across the Northland. A Red Flag Warning in effect for strong and gusty winds and low relative humidity for most of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Looking ahead, a strong spring system will bring thunderstorms with heavy rainfall from Sunday into early next week. Severe storms are possible Sunday evening through early Monday morning south of a line from Walker to Cloquet to Hayward to Ladysmith. The risk of severe storms shifts slightly farther east Monday afternoon and evening to east of a line from near Brainerd to Duluth to western Upper Michigan, including the I-35 corridor and all of northwest Wisconsin. Damaging wind gusts to 70 mph and large hail to golf ball size are the main severe weather threats. Localized minor flooding is possible with the storms. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... ...FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 PM CDT FRIDAY...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues.
* WHERE...In Minnesota, northwest Cook, northern Lake and northeast
St. Louis Counties.
* WHEN...Until 345 PM CDT Friday.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas,
rivers and around area lakes. Some low-water crossings may become
impassable.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 254 PM CDT Monday, elevated river and lake levels
continue.
- This includes the following streams and drainages...
Moose River, Jeanette Creek, Horse River, Basswood River,
Kawishiwi River, and Hustler River.
Additional rainfall amounts up to two tenths to three tenths
of an inch are expected over the area through mid-week.
Expect high, fast moving water on area rivers and elevated
lake levels. Water levels are near or above those seen during
flood events in Spring 2022 and June 2024.
Areas near the end of the Gunflint Trail and near Ely will
continue to see slow decreases in elevated water levels this
week. For areas near and on Basswood Lake, flows are peaking
as of Sunday afternoon, May 10, and at Lac La Croix peak
flows are expected this week.
Those venturing into the Boundary Waters should prepare for
high water and possible inundation of portages and campsites,
as well as dangerous rapids and very cold water.

Gunflint Lake, Snowbank Lake, Basswood Lake, Boundary Waters
Canoe Area Wilderness, Fall Lake, Sea Gull Lake, Saganaga
Lake, Ensign Lake, Disappointment Lake and Lac La Croix.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping
at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away
from those locations and seek higher ground.
Portage and hiking trails may be impassable and low-lying campsites
may be inundated with excessive runoff in this section of the
Boundary Waters as flooding is occurring or imminent.
Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and to the National Weather Service in Duluth when you
can do so safely. Flooding can be reported to the National Weather
Service at 1-800-685-8612.
