* WHAT...Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph
  expected. Gusts over 50 mph on the higher terrain.

* WHERE...Kootenai/Cabinet Region and Lower Clark Fork Region.

* WHEN...From 8 PM Monday to 8 AM MST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Weakened
  trees and tree limbs could be blown down impacting road access and
  causing localized power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

16:00 PST Mon Dec 08 2025 The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center in Sandpoint
has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:

NWS Missoula MT -
MTZ001 (MTZ001)

NWS Spokane WA -
ID 017 (Bonner County)...ID 021 (Boundary County)

* WHAT...An Avalanche Warning is in effect from Monday 4 PM to Tuesday 4
PM. Very dangerous avalanche conditions will develop overnight and last
though Tuesday as heavy, wet snowfall transitions to heavy rain along with
strong winds. You can very easily trigger avalanches large enough to bury
or kill you, and some will release spontaneously. Avoid travel in avalanche
terrain during this period.

* WHERE...The Selkirk Mountains, West and East Cabinet Mountains, and the
Silver Valley-Bitterroot Mountains above 4,000 feet.

* WHEN...In effect from Mon 16:00 PST to Tue 16:00 PST.

* IMPACTS...A potent atmospheric river characterized by near-historic
  moisture will introduce a firehose of moisture into North Idaho and
  Northwestern Montana. The rain line will rise to around 7,000 to 7,500 feet
  overnight Monday and will saturate recent snowfall and overload pre-
  existing weak snow layers. It will be very likely for backcountry travelers
  to trigger avalanches and natural avalanches are likely. Avalanches can
  break wide across terrain features and run long distances to lower
  elevations.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in avalanche terrain is not
recommended during this period.

.Near-record precipitation is possible this week as two Atmospheric
Rivers will move through the region. The first one arrives today and
continues through Tuesday, followed by a second, stronger one
Tuesday night through Thursday. Between 4 and 10 inches of moderate
to heavy rain are expected in the mountains. For some locations,
near record rainfall amounts are possible. The rain, falling on the
current snowpack, combined with mild nighttime temperatures will
increase snowmelt. Flows in rivers may increase quickly and reach
critical levels.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM MST THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH
THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues to be
  possible.

* WHERE...A portion of northwest Montana, including the following
  counties, Flathead, Lake, Lincoln and Sanders.

* WHEN...From 5 PM MST this afternoon through Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding
  may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and
  ditches may become clogged with debris. Rockfall is possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - A prolonged atmospheric river event will bring periods of
    moderate to heavy rainfall to the region. Snow levels will
    rise to 6,000 to 7,000 feet during the first moisture plume
    on Tuesday. Snow levels will fall temporarily to 3,000 to
    5,000 feet Tuesday night before rising again to 6,000 to
    9,000 feet Wednesday and Thursday. Between 4 and 10 inches of
    total precipitation will fall this week in the mountains and
    upslope regions and between 1 and 4 inches of total rainfall
    is expected in the valleys. Landslides in areas of steep
    terrain and minor flooding in urban and poor drainage areas
    are possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop. Monitor basements for water
intrusion. You may want to preemptively shovel snow away from your
home.

  PST. Very dangerous avalanche conditions could develop overnight Monday
  and raise the danger to High (Level 4 of 5).

* WHERE...The Selkirk, West and East Cabinet Mountains, and Bitterroot
  Mountains - Silver Valley.

* WHEN...In effect from Mon 06:00 PST to Mon 16:00 PST.

* IMPACTS...Heavy, wet snowfall Monday will transition to heavy rain
  overnight. A potent atmospheric river characterized by near-historic
  moisture will introduce a firehose of moisture into North Idaho and
  Northwestern Montana. The rain line will rise to around 7,000 feet
  overnight Monday and will saturate recent snowfall and buried weak layers,
  and could provoke a widespread cycle of avalanches large enough to bury,
  injure, or kill a person. Some of these avalanches could release naturally,
  and it will be very easy for backcountry travelers to trigger them.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Travel in or below avalanche
  terrain is not recommended during this period.
